Job Description
Director or Senior Manager of Freight Operations LA, Houston, El Paso, or Mexico:
- Oversee- US and Mexico OP teams among LA, ELP, HOU, ORD, JZ, and GDL those 6 locations, total 15-20 teammates
- Salary: 100-150K/y depends on the location and scope ability
- Report to: US GM and Global OP from China
- Prefer: 20 years of experienced in the logistics/forwarding industry, including at least 10 years of team management among different locations, and worked with an Asian company
- Note: freight operations are different from warehouse operations, we only care about candidates' ocean and air experiences
The Senior Freight Operations Manager will lead and manage all aspects of ocean, air freight and inland transportation and logistics operations. The role will be responsible for overseeing the movement of goods, optimizing carrier relationships, and ensuring efficient and cost-effective freight management. Its strategic leadership and operational expertise will be instrumental in driving the success while maintaining a focus on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.
Strategic Leadership:
o Formulate and implement both short-term and long-term strategies that harmonize with the company's overarching aims.
o Create and deploy tactical approaches to enhance the efficiency of freight routes, load consolidation, and transportation models that contribute to the company's profitable growth.
Operational Excellence:
o Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor the operation performance.
o Implement processes and procedures that ensure smooth operations, including order processing, tracking, and reporting.
o Implement best practices to minimize transit times, reduce costs, and enhance overall efficiency.
o Develop and maintain documentation of standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
o Evaluate supplier performance based on key metrics and implement corrective actions when necessary.
o Evaluate and implement transportation management systems (TMS) and logistics technology to improve visibility and efficiency.
o Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies that can enhance freight operations.
Customer Satisfaction:
o Collaborate with sales team to understand customer needs and expectations related to freight operations.
o Ensure timely and accurate delivery of goods, addressing any customer concerns promptly.
o Monitor and oversee freight costs, pinpointing chances for cost reduction, and furnishing feedback to procurement for rate negotiation and route optimization.
Risk Management:
o Identify potential risks and disruptions in the freight network and develop strategies to mitigate them.
o Implement contingency plans to address unforeseen events that could impact operations.
Team Management:
o Lead and mentor a team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
o Set clear expectations, provide guidance, and support the professional development of team members.
QUALIFICATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field;master's degree is a plus.
Minimum 10 years of experience in freight operations and logistics management, including leadership roles.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions and optimize operations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and logistics software.
Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team, driving a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Strategic thinking with a deep understanding of the freight industry landscape.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements, compliance, and safety standards in freight operations.
